BMW AI Box Compatibility Check

Before purchasing, please make sure your BMW meets the following requirements:

Required for the AI Box to Work

1. OEM Apple CarPlay (wired or wireless)

   • Wireless CarPlay works, but the AI Box may require temporary USB connection during initial setup.

2. BMW iDrive system

   • Compatible with ID6, ID7, ID8, ID9.

3. Model year

   • Typically 2017 and newer with Apple CarPlay.

4. iPhone for verification

   • Must be compatible with Apple CarPlay (iPhone 5 or newer).

Cars / Features That Will Not Work

• BMWs with Android Auto only

• BMWs without Apple CarPlay

• Older BMWs (pre-2017) without Apple CarPlay

How to Check Your BMW

1. Plug your iPhone into the CarPlay USB port.

   • Apple CarPlay launches → ✅ Compatible

   • Only Android Auto or nothing → ❌ Not compatible

2. Go to iDrive → Settings → Connections → Mobile Devices

   • Apple CarPlay listed → ✅ Compatible

3. Check your BMW invoice or ConnectedDrive account for Apple CarPlay activation.

Apple CarPlay Activation for BMWs

1. Not all BMWs come with CarPlay enabled by default.

   • Some BMWs (especially 2017–2019 models) require CarPlay to be activated via BMW ConnectedDrive.

   • Without activation, the car will not recognize the AI Box, even if it has the USB port.

2. How to check

   • Look at your purchase invoice for “Apple CarPlay Activation” or “Multimedia Package”.

   • Log in to your BMW ConnectedDrive account → check if Apple CarPlay is active.

   • iDrive → Settings → Connections → Mobile Devices → see if Apple CarPlay appears.

3. If not activated

   • You may need to purchase activation from BMW (often a one-time fee).

   • The AI Box cannot work without CarPlay being active.
